East Anglian Batho Family - 17th century informati

Helen Report 16 Aug 2008 17:28

I have the following information:

Theophilus Batho, draper, born 1645 married to Grace. Place of birth unsure but his son Samuel (vicar at Norwich and Haveringham) was born in Beccles, Suffolk. Various trees found on the internet claim that Theo's father was William Batho, vicar, born Clavering, Essex 1568 who was married to (1) Phebe and (2) Mary Hill (born 1582, Aldeburgh). If this information is true then William would have been 77 and his wife 63 which seems unlikely! I think there is a missing generation. Can anyone please help?

PS: I have just found a Theophilus Batho marriage to an Agnes Baker, 16/08/1627 in Dunwich, Suffolk - maybe there were two generations of Theos? Any ideas?

Many thanks

Helen

Wow Chris, What a fascinating list, and obviously a very learned and probably wealthy family.
Wish my tree showed clever ones!! Lot's of mine could not read or write, even in the 1800, let alone 1500
You really know your researching

Lol, well thought worth mentioning!, and probably lots more available online now, than in 2008!, although I bet that surname changed a lot. Expect local Archives to Counties hold quite a bit also, and Probate/Wills would help too.

All fascinating.

Chris :)
