If you buy the marriage certificate for Polly Simmons and Abe Friede it should give you their fathers names so you should be able to tell if it is "your" Polly - unless she didn't give her father's name because she ran away.

Are you certain that she didn't marry Albert E. Carroll? It's just that that would seem the most likely going by her age and the place of marriage (or is this one of the certificates you have already bought?)

Hi Janny,
On the 1911 census images (on Findmypast) it asks how many children were born to a marriage and how many are still alive and how many have died.
You will find that in that era most families lost babies. My husband's great grandparents are on the 1911 census and they have had 16 children, 11 of whom died. It must have been devastating for them. Having checked out the deaths for hubby's great grandparent's surname in the area where they lived it seems most of these children probably died before their first birthday.

Julia
It is 5 years since Jannny posted, and she will probably not be watching this thread.
Please send her a message through GR's internal messaging system (usually referred to as sending a pm, or private message). They will then contact her at the home email address that they have on file to say that a message is waiting on site.
As long as she still has the same email address as they have on file, she will get the message, and can contact you via the pm.
Just click on her name and a message box will appear.
Then watch Sent Messages to see if the pm has been opened or not
Go to Messages at the top, click on Sent Messages
If there is a green envelope to the left of the name, the pm has not been opened.
If there is no envelope showing, the pm has been opened, and you just have to hope that she responds to you
Good luck

of course I read the whole thing before realising how old it was :-)
not many Pollys born Dec 1906 in the deaths index
this one
Name: Polly Bowers Birth Date: 8 Dec 1906 Date of Registration: Jan 1990 Age at Death: 83 Registration district: Portsmouth Inferred County: Hampshire Volume: 20 Page: 802
matches this household in the 1939 register
Polly Bowers (Carroll) 08 Dec 1906 House Duties Elizabeth Joan (Betty E) Tenver (Carroll) 13 Aug 1929 At School
that is, both Polly and her daughter were named Carroll at the time and both subsequently (re)married (and both are deceased)
Polly's second marriage recorded under both surnames which indicates divorce
Name: Polly Carroll Spouse Surname: Bowers Date of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep 1954 Registration district: Brighton Inferred County: Sussex Volume Number: 5h Page Number: 247
Name: Polly Simmons Spouse Surname: Bowers Date of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep 1954 Registration district: Brighton Inferred County: Sussex Volume Number: 5h Page Number: 247
spouse John A Bowers
daughter actually married Penver (mistranscribed Tenver in 1939 register at findmypast)
Name: Elizabeth J Carroll Spouse Surname: Penver Date of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar 1952 Registration district: Hereford Inferred County: Herefordshire Volume Number: 9a Page Number: 106
spouse Basil G Penver and two children of that marriage ... he is in many trees here, most of which have his place and date of birth wrong ... one tree owner might be a relation of Polly's second husband
Births Sep 1929 Carroll Elizabeth J Simmons Brighton 2b 265
I have my doubts that she is the person who married Penver in Hereford, there could be an error in the update of the 1939 register
... but maybe so
Name: Elizabeth J Penver Birth Date: abt 1930 Date of Registration: Mar 1964 Age at Death: 34 Registration district: Cuckfield Inferred County: Sussex Volume: 5h Page: 231
no other Polly Simmons born late 1906-early 1907, so seems a pretty sure bet that was her

Janny, I'm so sorry not to have replied to your PM - I haven't been around here much lately and I saw it when I got the email notice and found this thread that it was about, and meant to post here to let others know the good news and I guess I got distracted!
You're very welcome and thanks for letting us know.
