One of the ingredients of matches was white phosphorus which was very dangerous. If you Google there is quite a lot about it.

Nasty stuff - must have been awful working with it

Back to the Thomsons!!
Much earlier on this thread I had Mary Ann Eliza Thomson - born circa 1845 according to Census info. I had the choice from 3 possibles in 1845
Mary Ann Eliza Thomson - St George in the East - Mar 1845 (most likely) Mary Ann Eliza Thomson - Chelsea - Dec 1845 Mary Ann Eliza ThomPson - Stepney - Sep 1845
I sent for a cert (GRO check) and received one which seems to fit with the information - it is the March 1845 cert, father named as William Thomson (Mariner), mother Eliza Ann Thomson, formerly Carson - so looks like it is the correct one, and supports the information already provided by helpers on this thread.
So what is my problem? I am stuck again - I cannot find a marriage - is anyone else able to find one anywhere please?

I forget if you have access to Ancestry: London, England, Marriages and Banns, 1754-1921 about William Thompson Name: William Thompson Occ:Mariner Spouse Name: Eliza Ann Kulburn Record Type: Marriage Event Date: 25 Mar 1843 Parish: Christ Church, Watney Street Borough: Tower Hamlets Father Name: John Thompson Spouse Father: James Cosson Register Type: Parish Register
She's a widow and I really can't make out what her married name was.

Wow MaureenNY, you always find the good stuff! Thank you
I don't currently have Ancestry - but when I have something specific can get to the Library to check it out. I ordered my Mary Ann Eliza birth cert (estimated despatch was 11/4/14) which wasn't issued until 16/4/14 - so must have had a problem reading it at GRO.
So it looks like it could be MMN Cosson and not Carson. I'd wondered if it might have been Cannon as some appear earlier in the thread on a census, will be able to try to follow up the Cosson connection (quite like the name Cosson, it is a bit different for a change)
Thank you

Hi Kucinta
Yes that Chatham christening for Eliza Cosson certainly seems to fit the Eliza married to William. The James Cosson marriage looks likely too. All the dates seem to fit in nicely too
Thank you for finding them for me
