Hi I know this will sound really vague but having just seen a death certificate I can't read the cause of death, I don't know if anyone can interpret it or has any ideas. The person is Henry Brown, died October 1871 aged 33 in St George in the East he was a hairdresser married to Louisa Richens. The cause of death is a word that doesn't have any letters that go under the line i.e. g, p, q etc and possibly ends ........isis and he had it for 1 year. I would be grateful for any suggestions thanks |

I know it's got a p, but could it be phthisis? It was a huge killer at this time in east London, and elsewhere. Another name for tuberculosis. |

Thank you that would make sense. Louisa and henry had a daughter also louisa born in 1871 and possibly a son william born in 1866 but i can't find these 2 on the 1881 census, so could they possibly have died from TB as well. I can only find louisa and her son henry on the 1881 census living together in St George in the east, but i can't find the older children,John born 1865 and Charles born 1867 either |
