Thanks Mavis I have no information regarding my grandmother Elizabeth Gallon other than she had my father in 1921 she registered her name as Elizabeth Wilson so i presume she was married before my dad's birth (also my dad's father is not Wilson) It would help if i can find my grandmother's birth certificate but all i remembered my dad saying was that she was Welsh, the only address i have is 89 Church St Runcorn Reading from the replies i have seen, it may be possible that Wilson was killed (WW1) Thanks Martin

as a thought could Elizabeth Gallon married before she married a Wilson ??
that would account for no marriage as Elizabeth Gallon to a Wilson.
Gallon surname seems to be a orientated around Tynemouth area 1910 /1930
found very few birth's for Wilson - mth Gallon all within Tynemouth
Mary C Wilson 1912 Tynemouth parents maybe William Wilson and Sarah Gallon = 1912
only these up to 1930 mth Gallon --- may have been 2 mothers nee Gallon going by 2 births in 1924
Chin L Wilson 1921 Runcorn
Frank Wilson 1922 Tynemouth
Gladys Wilson Sep1924 Tynemouth Rhoda Wilson Dec 1924 Tynemouth
Alan F Wilson 1928 Tynemouth

Re-posting my earlier posts on Mary Elizabeth .................
----------- Working on the principle that Elizabeth Gallon might be older, I looked for marriages between a Mr Wilson and an Elizabeth Gallon form 1900 to 1921 ....... i didn't look before 1900. The following was the only one that I found on freebmd
Marriages Dec 1900 (>99%)
Gallon Mary Elizabeth Portsmouth 2b 1156 Wilson Thomas Tinnion Portsmouth 2b 1156
This looks like Thomas Tinnion's Birth Registration .....
Births Sep 1872 (>99%) WILSON Thomas Tinnion Whitehaven 10b 566
I then found this Probate Record on ancestry .............
England & Wales, National Probate Calendar (Index of Wills and Administrations), 1858-1966
Name: Thomas Tinnion Wilson Probate Date: 8 Feb 1917 Registry: Exeter Death Date: 12 Nov 1916 Death Place: Devon, England
from image:- of Mill Street, Sidmouth, Devonshire, grocer, died 12 November 1916 at the Devon County Asylum, Exminster, Devonshire. Probate granted Exeter 8 February 1917 to Thomas Gallon, engineer, and Mary Elizabeth Wilson, widow. Effects £454 1s
The following death registration matches the probate record, St Thomas is the Registration District that includes Exminster ...........
Deaths Dec 1916 (>99%) Wilson Thomas T 43 St.Thomas 5b 88
But then my possible theory came to a screeching halt %3A-%28
If the information on the 1901 and 1911 Censuses is accurate, Mary Elizabeth would be too old to have a child in 1921 %3A-%28

Mary Elizabeth seems to have certainly been born ca 1866
This looks like her in 1881 (from FMP as ancestry has stopped working for me) .....

I really doubt that someone born in 1864-1866 would have had a child in 1921, at the age of ca 55
Back to the drawing board!
----------------
It was a good theory while it lasted!!!!!

That's the one I found and disproved earlier ............... she would have been in her late 50s in 1921!

that's this one

There is a record of a Elizabeth Gallon who married a wilson as follows: Volume 2B Page 1156 Line Number 95
Image Quarter 4 Country England County Hampshire District PORTSMOUTH
But it is a long shot

Thanks Chris I ordered the birth certificate for her and looking at the records you found, i dont believe it is the right person. I was looking for a Gallon marriage to a Wilson sometime between 1910 & 1920 but couldnt find anything. But i appreciate your detective work :-(

I dont know whether i am barking up the wrong tree but i found a Elizabeth Gallon : GALLON ELIZABETH 1900 — 1900 Births & baptisms South Shields, Durham, England Gallon Elizabeth 1900 — 1904 Schools & education Again i am assuming that my grandmother was born in 1900
|
Not sure what the following means: Elizabeth Wilson L2LP-V2L Any ideas?
|
Thanks Chris, yes, i would have been 2 years old when my father took my 3 older brothers to Hong Kong for schooling,i was too young to go. My brothers returned about 6-7 years later, un beknowing to me and my younger brother that we had 3 older brothers who suddenly appeared
To Rambling Rose, thank you again for your detective work, i give you that you are very diligent and tirelessly helped to find out who my grandmother was. I am still a bit unsure if the Elizabeth Gallon was my grandmother but i cant dismiss it at the moment as i dont have much to go on. i
Thanks also Detective,my grandfather took my father who must have been 3 years old to China

In the 1924 passenger list for Chin Lee posted on the previous page, Dock Lee was aged 50. So born c1874?
From memory there were other entries for him on the passengers lists, which could be checked.

Don't suppose you have any idea of age for Dock?...
Chris :)

I am just wondering if, on a very very outside chance she may have lived with a Mr Wilson and taken his name without being married?
Otherwise the only Gallon /Wilson marriage I can see is this one

Thanks Sylviain for your clarification, i am still none the wiser. Are there any marriage records available covering Gallon & Wilson? I checked 89 church st(Runcorn) but came up with a blank,my grandfather's name was Chin Dock (born in China) but he came over to UK as a seaman. I am sorry that i dont have that much information, i suppose its like looking for a needle in a haystck

women can be as old as 50 and have children, though that is rare unless the women has previously had a lot of children.
I would consider that an age range up to the age of 45 could be well within consideration.
It is not at all strange that there are two birth registrations for your father.
It simply means that your mother was married (Wilson), and that Gallon was her maiden name. If the father had been her husband Mr Wilson, then that would have been it. There would ahve been only 1 birth registration.
In your father's case, it means that Mr Wilson was not the father, and your mother was honest in admitting that to the Registrar, so the birth had to be registered twice ............. once in her legal name of Wilson, and once in the name of Gallon because Mr Wilson was either dead or would not allow his name to be used.
Wilson was Elizabeth's legal name because once a woman married back then, she took her husband's surname and kept that name unless she married again or legally changed her name
