Re the articles Chris mentioned-
Nottingham Evening Post - Wednesday 26 March 1941
States he was a married man with seven children who had twice been separated from his wife, but was with her when he joined up in June 1939. He was accused of being an absentee from his unit and a "serious offence repsecting a 14 year old girl".
He;d taken the girl to visit relatives in Yorkshire and then both had stayed at his mother's house in Brighouse and later visited distant relatives of his in Sheffield. ---------------------------------------------------------------
Nottingham Evening Post - Thursday 26 June 1941
Was sentenced to 9 months imprisonment after pleading guilty to an offence re the 14 year old girl. Article states that his marriage had been an unhappy one, and that he'd left his wife shortly after marriage 9 years ago- he'd been sentence to a months hard labour for leaving his wife and a separation order was granted in 1933.
