Shaw Family
Many thanks for the answers and hard work. I have death cert. which states John and Sarah being parents. I have bought birth certs with no luck and marriage cert states nothing. I cannot find him on entry lists into NZ so am now wondering about Henry being his birth name or may have changed name completely for some unknown reason which is maybe going to make it impossible for me.

Surnames: Shaw, Finch
Hi, I note your threads re Henry Shaw. I have a Henry Shaw I have been researching for years. He was born to John and Sarah Shaw in Sheffield Yorkshire UK abt 1844. John Shaw was noted on Henry's death cert as being a tableknifemaker or cutler. Henry married my Grt-Grandmother Emma Finch in Dunedin New Zealand in 1867 and they farmed in Milton Otago where he died in 1881. I see no sign of his arrival in NZ or any sign of his life except for a grave which has no marker and a notice in an old Otago paper inviting friends and family to his funeral. I have a feeling that John and Sarah and maybe other family (which is what I am looking for) may have went to Australia and hence Henry came here from there in the gold rushes but this is only thoughts. there is several people that could be his family in the 1841 census in Sheffield but following the families through the census I find nothing. There is no family to ask for assistance and my Grt-Grandmother married again and the Shaw connection was lost. Nothing has been handed down re my Grandfather or GrtGrandfather so I am lost. Our side of the Shaw name will be lost as my brother's son has not married so I am very anxious to find out as much as I can about this line.

Could Henry have had 2 forenames, used one when he was younger and then preferred Henry in later life?
I think that Normandy should buy the marriage certificate for Henry and Emma, if he does not already have it, to see what Henry states on there.
Then this should be followed by buying the birth certificates found for Henry ...... which may be a waste of money as I'm just feeling that there is a possibility that Henry may have lied about his father's name :-(

Looking for any info on Henry Shaw born Sheffield 1844 to John and Sarah Shaw. John was a table knife cutler. He married Emma Finch in Dunedin New Zealand in 1867 and then moved to Tokomairiro (Milton). He died there in April 1881 and is resting in the Anglican old cemetery in Milton with several of his family members.
