Many thanks for your replies. Thomas lived with his maternal grandparents, hence on his marriage certificate his father's name appearing as Thomas Stephenson. However it is telling that on his birth/baptism entry his father is blank which, given his Crump middle name, again suggests something illigitimate. I have checked the illigitimacy records as far as I can without success. |

Not seeing any Probate for him, below was Death Notice in Newspaper, 1886 died 2nd June at Hull, late of Woodmansey Grange, in his 85th year. |

I am trying to find the confirmed father of the above (my great grandfather), born 1839 Woodmansey to 'single woman' Sarah Stephenson (b. 1813). I suspect there is an illigitimate birth going on here as I think there was a connection to Robert Crump, a wealthy local landowner/timer merchant fo whom Sarah may have been house servant. Robert's father was Thomas. I cannot find any confirmed link, nor Robert's will which might have hinted at something. Any ideas? Thanks. |
