How have you worked back to her, Derek?
Have you found the family on censuses? So far, I'm not seeing them conclusively in 1861.

PM from Derek:
Ann Jane Moore is on the 1861 census living with relations of mine . Richard Mogridge and Elizabeth Richardson and she was born on board ship called the Argo coming back from India on the 28th March 1858. Regards, Derek.

It's a pity you've marked your thread as answered - that's intended to mean that your query has been answered to your satisfaction, and not just that you have answered a question someone has asked you about your query. It's a bad feature of GR, which we've complained about ineffectually for years. Once done, it can't be undone, unfortunately.]
I did wonder about that census record.
Here it is, for helpers' reference.

Goodness knows what relationship a "second niece" is - sounds fairly distant.
A niece's daughter, perhaps?? Normally referred to as a grand-niece.

Will post my replies on here ArgyllGran and yes I also see a that a niece of Richard Mogridge had a daughter so she would be known as a second or grand-niece.
On Ann Jane Argo Moore marriage certificate her father had already died and I have a record from the ship ' Argo ' which read Mrs Moore a soldier's widow had baby girl on the 28th March 1858. So Mrs Moore was with child and her father Thomas Moore must have died or Killed in India some time between 1857/58.
safc, thank you very much for the information which I have found very useful and I would be very grateful if you can send me a copy of the marriage of Thomas Moore and Ann/Antonia.

As Ann Jane was still living with the Mogridges in 1871, I assume her mother died in (or soon after) childbirth.

yes it is possible ArgyllGran that Ann Jane's mother maybe have died soon after arriving in England. If she is great niece that would be very interesting to look into.
