WOW - Thank you SO MUCH Chris Ho & Austin Q. for this information. I had almost given up hope of ever finding anything on G.W. Duncan. Now when time permits I will find out where he died and if he really was a Privateer.....and what would his fate have been if he had lived?? Did they exchange prisoners (if he really was one). His sister's husband (George Felstead) was a body guard to Queen Victoria and donated blood to one of her children - I suspect it may have been Prince Leopold but back when I had to hand write all my requests and send stamps, St James Palace was no help at all. . It is great to know people are out there willing to help. Many thanks again. Lynda |

Amelia was my Great Grandmother. I am interested in her brother George William Duncan. One family story says he died of Yellow Fever in a British Consulates home where he was being held prisoner for having weapons of was on board his ship. To date I have not had any help from the British Consulates department. I know that many privateers and pirates lived on Madagascar but the information I received from South African Settlers says he died 5th March 1858 aged 39 married with 6 children. There is also reference to a film - NatalDN film 1295097 item 15 no.6 |

Always worth a check in 'Search All Member Trees (top right of page here, under 'Search') to see if any other Genes Members share names... |

Believed to have been a privateer. Born Gibraltar 1819 died Mozambique 1858. Wife Mary Ann - 6 children. Amelia Mary, Ellen Ann, Elizabeth Sarah, Charles Edward, William George and Charlotte Mary Ann. George William was brother to my Great Grandmother Amelia Felstead (nee Duncan) who migrated to Australia with her daughter Laura, son Reuben with his wife and 3 children - a grand daughter and a maid named Bennett. I would love to hear from any descendants. Lynda Turner |
