The one born 1895 was given his name by his parents
Births Dec 1895 (>99%) Broughton Louis Naploleon B Bradford, Y. 9b 128
Perhaps they admired Napoleon Bonaparte?
The younger man, was also given the names at registration
Births Sep 1924 (>99%) Broughton Louis N B Larkin Bradford 9b 208
Father & son?
This could be Louis Snrs marriage
Marriages Jun 1921 (>99%) Broughton Louis Lakin Bradford 9b 433
In which case he didn't use his middle names when he wed.

In the 1939 Register the middle names have been added at a later date in green ink so I suspect it was after 1939:-
Broughton Household (4 People) 44 Marshall Street , Bradford C.B., Yorkshire (West Riding), England FIRST NAME(S) LAST NAME(S) DOB SEX OCCUPATION MARITAL STATUS SCHEDULE SCHEDULE SUB NUMBER
Louis (Napoleon) Broughton 12 Nov 1897 Male Newspaper Printer Married 144 1 Mary Broughton 09 Apr 1903 Female Housewife Duties Married 144 2 Louis Broughton 24 Jun 1924 Male Bobbin Pegger Textile Single 144 3 Jack Dews 13 Sep 1920 Male Bromide Printer Married 144 6

Ahh, yes, I see now that the surname has been mistranscribed:-
First name(s) LOUIS NAPOLEON B Last name BROUGRTON Birth year 1895 Birth quarter 4 Registration month - Mother's last name - District BRADFORD County Yorkshire Country England Volume 9B Page 128
Ignore the fact that I said earlier that it was after 1939 - they obviously just forgot to give his full name at the time. However he also gives his year of birth as 1897 rather than 1895.

One wonders why an Englishman would so name his son especially so many years after Napoleon's death?

I wonder if his father was also called Louis Napoleon Bonaparte??
1901 Census
Louis Broughton 56 b.ca 1845, Brighouse, Yorkshire Margaret Broughton 40 John Broughton 16 Dennis Broughton 13 Honorah Broughton 10 Edna Broughton 7 Louis Broughton 6 Margaret Broughton 2 Emma Firth 39
Some Public Family Trees on ancestry do show the faher as Lewis Napolen Broughton, but he seems to have been registered as Lewis Broughton, and shows as Lewis on censuses in 1851 and 1861, then becomes Louis in 1871 which is after he and Margaret married.
Birth registration ........

BUT there is also this death in 1894

and that matches up with this birth .............
Births ..............
Births Dec 1894 (>99%)
Broughton Louis Bradford, Y. 9b 114
then we have Louis Napoleon born in 1895
Births Dec 1895 (>99%)

Is there a connection??????????????

Just as a matter of interest .............
On the 1911 Census, Louis Broughton b. ca 1845 is a Boader in a house in Bradford. He states that he is "Married got separation" and that he had had 12 children and 7 were still alive

Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte, also known as Napoleon III, was the last Emperor of France and was exiled to England, dying in Chislehurst, Kent, in 1873.
I agree with Ann - people do give their children some unusual names. If you can call your child after your favourite celebrity, or, as I read once, the whole of the Manchester United football team, why not Louis-Napoleon, who was probably quite a talking point in his day?

Joseph ...............
Welcome to the Boards
I'm glad that we could help a little bit.
None of the people who have posted on this thread are related to you ............ we are all members of GR who like to help others.
All the information we have posted has been found by looking at different sources, and with some conjecture on our part as to why a parent would give a child the name of a famous person.
Please do not open your tree to us.
If you wish to know whether any member on GR has your family in their tree, and so may know more, then you will have to Search All Member Trees yourself.
Go to Search at the top right of your screen, and hold the mouse cursor over it
A drop box will appear
Click on Search All Member Trees
Enter Louis Napoleon Bonaparte Broughton in the relevant boxes, and click Submit
A list of members who may have him in their tree will appear.
You then send a message to that member by clicking on the name, explaining why you think you might have a connection, and send
Then you will have to wait to see if you get any replies back.
Good luck!
