Thanks so much...seems I'll never find my great great grandparents names now. Yes Elizabeth is where they lived before coming back to UK and 2 of my grandmother's sisters moved back there. Again many thanks for the look-up |

Clare, do you have her emigration records please? Perhaps she emigrated with other family members. Do you have her on any U. S. census records please? |

Hi Chris - yes posted that but haven't really got any further. Mgt had a sister who remained in Ireland and never married. Have her on censi alone as Mary Anne if correct one but no proof. |

This one is curious! I can't find any record of her arriving in US, no record of them returning to UK. Also she should be on the 1870 US census but Ican't see her there. |

James & Margaret Jane Lawrence are on many trees on Ancestry but none give her maiden name. They say she was born 1857 Enniskillen, Fermanagh, Ireland. If that is true was she only 9 years old when she emigrated alone? |

I believe this is the family in 1881. Last name I assume is Percy Curtis aged 4 months. |

Ooops sorry haven' t been back to this thread and just seen all the census stuff. Have all the UK censi which they are on already except for 1871 when we presume James was in USA so that US 1870 census could be the correct one. James was a bit of a lad by all account and from stories I have found in old newspapers - petty crime. The child William born/died before thier marriage could relate to them. After they returned to UK they had 13 children born with 8 alive in 1911 so maybe William was one of the deceased ones ??? I think from somewhere which I can't find that the brother Mgt went to in US was named William. Yes she was very young when she travelled there alone. My second cousin theorises that maybe the family in Ireland were very poor and the parents died ??? As a matter of interest to you all James left the family in the 1900's and went off to Australia where he died in 1929. We speculated that he may have had another wife/family there but I have found his will and he left money to "some" of his children in the UK |
