Martha Leach died 24 July 1880 at age 50. I have the death certificate which says she died of hemiplegia. When I looked this up on the internet it said it was caused by a brain injury. Any suggestions how I could find out how the brain injury occurred?

google "hemiplegia causes" .....

..... there are several results

It can be caused by a stroke, a tumour, injury, etc.

I would hazard a guess that it would be a term used for a stroke in 1880 as damage to the brain by trauma or injury was not well understood.

Thanks Sylvia, that makes more sense. The only cause I found was for brain injury so I didn't look any further.
