Hi, I am researching a William Webb born 1875, died 1910 in the Croydon area. I believe he was twice married, probably widowed before re-marrying.

The William who died in Jan/March 1911 (so could have been 1910) was probably this one from probate, to help in elimination: of 20 Alfred Road, South Norwood, died 19th February 1911, to Martha Amelia Webb, widow.
What information have you got about him other than name and birth year and supposed death?

1911 England, Wales & Scotland Census Transcription 20 Alfred Road, Croydon, Surrey, England
Martha Amelia Webb Head Widow Female Home 38 1873 Upper Norwood London William Robert Webb Son - Male - 9 1902 Thornton Heath Surrey Bernard James Webb Son - Male - 7 1904 Thornton Heath Surrey Reginald Lawrence Webb Son - Male - 2 1909 Balham London Stanley Cyril Webb Son - Male - 0 1911 South Norwood Surrey Reginald Whitehead Brother - Male - 18 1893 Thornton Heath Surrey Emma Malthouse Visitor Widow Female - 66 1845 Tonbridge Kent
Although crossed out, the image says her 'current' marriage is 4 years old (which ties in with the 1907 marriage malyon posted) and that the 'present' marriage produced 4 children, all of whom were living.
In case Emma Malthouse is relevant, the image says she had been married 42 years, had 4 children one of which had died

Thanks. I have the details you mention. Other than his 2nd marriage to Martha we know very little about him. I have been searching BMD's. census's and newspapers with little joy. His father's name may have been John but no idea about his mother's name, whether they were originally from the Croydon, South London area or migrated there at some point. There are a couple of possibilities including the one you mention.

The Suffolk John could be the correct family
1891 John Webb Age: 48 Estimated birth year: abt 1843 Relation: Head Spouse's Name: Mary Ann Webb Gender: Male Where born: Ipswich, Suffolk, England Civil Parish: St Clement Ecclesiastical parish: St Clement Town: Ipswich County/Island: Suffolk Country: England Street address: Siloam Place
Registration district: Ipswich ED, institution, or vessel: 7 Neighbors: View others on page Piece: 1471 Folio: 6 Page Number: 5
John Webb 48 Mary Ann Webb 46 Robt Chas Webb 26 Alfred Webb 14 Alice Webb 11 Susann Webb 7
Occupation says Labourer, Dock Railway
He might well have tinkered with the engines. Alternatively William could have beefed up the occupation as his bride's father was a Master Builder

Have you got his will and death certificate to help with any further information available?
I put the details of the William married to Martha to eliminate him as you said he died in 1910.
Why do you believe his Father's name may have been John?
Thanks

Thanks all for the bits of info. I have the marriage certificate for Martha and William Webb. Martha was his 2nd wife his first having died leaving him with two young boys. As circumstances would have he then died leaving Martha with their own two boys together with his slightly older sons.
The reason I believe John was his father's name is its recorded on the marriage certificate in the name of father column. This rather confirmed to me that one of my options the William born in Ipswich was the line I was looking for. In the 1901 census it describes his work as a telegraph wire worker. Going back years we knew from one of his son's with Martha that he was something to do with telegraph/ early telephone lines. I even knew the two older boys from his first marriage were a William and Bernard but the ages I was given were incorrect.
So I had most of the info but couldn't put it in order because knowing that William died before the 1911 census I just forgot to search with Martha as the head of the family now that William had passed, which you kindly gave me. Now I can delve further into this side of the family.
