Hi, I wonder if you can help me – I am currently researching my family tree. My Grandmother’s father is the person we are trying to find some information about. His name was J Wright. (We believe James) – we have some letters that he wrote my great grandmother, and on these letters is the address where he lived. This was 36 Parsons Mead, west Croydon, Surrey. |

Do I gather you can't be sure the first name is James? |

Hi, I think James is possibly just an assumption - plus I know many people will go by other names. |

Your best bet would be to contact the main library local to that Croydon address and ask if they would do an electoral roll look-up for you (there 'may' be a small charge?). |

Thanks Dea, I have asked the Croydon archives and am waiting on a reply. The letters I think may be dated 1945/1946 but that seems strange as my great grandmother was remarried then (naughty naughty) but - who knows?! :) |

Did he sign himself J Wright in the letters he wrote your great grandmother, or did he use a forename? |

Hi, sorry for the late reply, I went to my aunties house today to see the letter in person..... he has signed it Jim. I also have pictures, now whats confusing is, he must have been in the north east when he wrote these letters as he talks about meeting my great grandmother the next day, yet he still wrote his name and address on the letter? would that be a normal thing to do?? |

Go to the top of the page and click un 'keepsafe' - you can upload pictures to there and if you want others to see them you have to mark them 'open to all' or something similar. |
