I noticed the death in 2000 in Bedale N. Yorkshire but unless she was sent to an institution there after the closure of Mary Denby hospital it seems a long shot.

my mother was born late November 1918 but her birth was reg 1919 I had trouble finding her

Elsie's marriage was in 1934, to John Allanaoh (sic) per FreeBMD, or Allanach (per Ancestry), or Allarach per 1939 Register.

A son was born 1947 - Allenach - yet another spelling.

Of course, it's always possible that the Birkenhead death is hers, if the informant didn't know her correct DOB.

There's no sign of Mabel having had any siblings.

In 1941, financial problems forced the Society to relinquish control to Cheshire County Council. Post-war other approaches were considered more appropriate, and Mary Dendy Hospital (as it had become known) was run down, finally closing in 1989. All that survives today is a unit operating on Chelford Road which now takes care of mentally ill patients who would previously have been sent to Rampton Secure Hospital. One of the largest of its old sites has been demolished to make way for a modern housing estate at Buttermere Drive[citation needed]

Maybe she went on to live a long life and her death record isn't online

Yes Dea but you have six weeks to reg a birth so it's likely was reg Jan 1914

My dad was born Dec 1907 and he was reg late jan 1908

The six weeks is because that was the lying in period after childbirth and it would often be the mum who reg the birth

The six weeks period is still in force :-)

The birth was towards the end of November Shirley !

Thanks PricklyHolly. She was definitely born in Wharfedale, Yorkshire. She was raised in Rawdon, Leeds until her teenage years when she became difficult to look after. my mother remembered her very well.

As there are no living relatives I can ask, please can anyone help trace a death record? I have full records of her immediate family but because she was sent away it has proven harder to follow the trail.
My mother's cousin: Mabel Lawson b.22 Nov 1913 Wharfedale, Yorkshire. Had learning disability from birth. Was sent, age 16, to Sandlebridge Boarding School/Mary Dendy Hospital, Cheshire on 11 November 1929 until 27 February 1959 at which point she became an 'informal' patient.
I very much doubt that she would be married due to her mental health, though it is possible of course. However, I cannot find a death record online for Mabel which matches her birth date. The closest I can find is a death in Birkenhead, Cheshire in 2001 with birth date of 27 October 1912. Unlikely to be the same Mabel?
