Having looked again at the 1950 return to UK, I see that the son born in 1949 was actually on the same ship as his parents and brother - but listed separately.

the nurse may be nothing to do with him.

Per the newspaper report of Major H's marriage, Auchendoon was actually the son's maternal grandparents' home.

Major H's parents lived in Switzerland and South Africa.

Maybe he went to live abroad after 1959?

There's a record of the birth of a son in Mount Kisco, New York in 1949.
And of the son's travel back to UK in 1950, possibly with a nurse, Annie Henderson. No parents with him. [EDIT: No, see correction @ 13:13 below. His parents were on the same ship.]

Can't see any sign of RDH's death anywhere, though.

EDIT:
The Hugentobler home address in 1950 was Auchendoon, Newton Stewart.
Auchendoon House burned down in the 1960's.
Nowadays there are modern houses built where the estate used to be.

Looking for Roy Douglas Hugentobler b Kent 1913 m 1945 Newton Stewart Scotland , have found him in phone book for 1959 as Major Douglas Hugentobler then no more listed. His wife remarried in 1963 in London, do I take it he died?
Can find no trace of him in any records for the UK
