question....

why would 7 out of 8 children be baptised....(including the illegitimate) but one child is missed out??

The child missing is smack bang in the middle - age wise too.

Yes, the surname is BISP but has been BISH, BISS BLISS etc - quite frustrating!

Mmn is hopelessly out on the records
Am guessing they coulnt read or write so the name is spelt as it sounded to the registrar

Tried looking for some of the children you quote but not coming up with mmn bishop

Cannot seem to find a baptism record even though there is one for all the other 7 children!

Not unless another Bisp married a Smart....

This is the 1891 census ... I cant seem to place where Lilley comes into this...

Have you found the family on any earlier census than the 1911 one ,that should show the children at home

On the 1911 census it states for the parents that there were 8 children (0 died) so I went on a mission to find them... some of the same family and the children were found for me on my other post ... Just for reference..

So here's the info I have...

Elizabeth Bisp married Alfred William Smart in 1882 Barton Regis.
In 1911 it states they had 8 children..
I have found a lot of valuable information and baptism parish records on the Frenchay Museum website...
This is the children I have found...

Elizabeth Bertha Bisp - born 1881 to her mother who was a single mother at the time..Illegitimate child whose name then became Bertha Elizabeth Smart when her mother married Alfred....I am thinking that Bertha is being named as one of the 8 children.
After then we have from Baptism records...

Florry Louise b.1883
Ethel b.1884
Hannah b.1886
Alice b. 1892
Arthur Edward b.1895
Hilda Louise b. 1898

All born in Winterbourne, Gloucestershire.
Baptisms registered in St Michael's C of E parish Church.

So there we have 7 children.... where is number 8??

If anyone can solve this, I would be so happy
