If one is your ancestor then you need her marriage cert to see who she names as her father
|
Who did she marry ?
If Ancestry's suggestions are anything to go by -
they don't suggest any marriage for John & Jane's daughter.
They do suggest that William & Elizabeth's daughter married Samuel London/Loudon:
Harriett London in the 1861 England Census Name: Harriett London Age: 27 Estimated Birth Year: 1834 Relation: Wife Spouse's Name: Samuel London Gender: Female Where born: Hadleigh, Suffolk, England Civil Parish: Kersey County/Island: Suffolk Country: England Registration district: Cosford Sub-registration district: Hadleigh ED, institution, or vessel: 14 Neighbors: Household schedule number: 66 Piece: 1136 Folio: 19 Page Number: 12 Household Members: Name Age Samuel London 36 Harriett London 27 Harriett E London 1
(From FamilySearch) :-
Harriet Ramplin mentioned in the record of Samuel Loudon and Harriet Ramplin Name Samuel Loudon Spouse's Name Harriet Ramplin Event Date 07 Mar 1856 Event Place Hadleigh,Suffolk,England
On the original document Samuel seems to be written as Sarah, and that's what's transcribed in FreeBMD and Ancestry.
The child's middle name is Elizabeth - if that can be counted as a clue:
Harriet Elizabeth London in the England, Select Births and Christenings, 1538-1975 Name: Harriet Elizabeth London Gender: Female Baptism Date: 8 Apr 1860 Baptism Place: Kersey,Suffolk,England Father: Samuel London Mother: Harriet FHL Film Number: 919620

Some people do get double-counted, e.g., my grandad's Aunt Christie:
1851 Census Piece: SCT1851/218 Place: Longside -Aberdeenshire Enumeration District: 1 Civil Parish: Longside Ecclesiastical Parish, Village or Island: - Folio: 176 Page: 10 Schedule: 52 Address: South Street, Mintlaw Surname First name(s) Rel Status Sex Age Occupation Where Born Remarks GREIG John Head M M 32 Farm Servant Aberdeenshire - Fraserburgh GREIG Margaret Wife M F 23 Aberdeenshire - Longside GREIG Christian Dau - F 2 Aberdeenshire - Longside GREIG William Son - M 6m Aberdeenshire - Longside
1851 Census Piece: SCT1851/218 Place: Longside -Aberdeenshire Enumeration District: 1 Civil Parish: Longside Ecclesiastical Parish, Village or Island: - Folio: 176 Page: 21 Schedule: 100 Address: Hill Of Mintlaw Surname First name(s) Rel Status Sex Age Occupation Where Born Remarks SLESSOR William Head M M 66 Farmer Of 15 Acres & Carrier Aberdeenshire - Longside SLESSOR Christian Wife M F 52 Aberdeenshire - Old Deer SLESSOR Mary Dau U F 26 Aberdeenshire - Longside Page: 176/22 SLESSOR John D Son U M 17 Farmer & Carrier's Son Aberdeenshire - Longside GREIG Christian Grndau - F 2 Aberdeenshire - Longside
There's a quite obvious explanaton for her standing in both enumerations taken together, which the next census tends tp corroborate:
1861 Census Piece: SCT1861/218 Place: Longside -Aberdeenshire Enumeration District: 4 Civil Parish: Longside Ecclesiastical Parish, Village or Island: - Folio: 0 Page: 17 Schedule: 118 Address: Hill Of Mintlaw Surname First name(s) Rel Status Sex Age Occupation Where Born Remarks SLESSOR William Head W M 78 Farmer Of 14 Acres Aberdeenshire - Longside 4 rooms GREIG John Sonlaw M M 46 Ploughman Aberdeenshire - Fraserburgh GREIG Margaret Dau M F 32 Aberdeenshire - Longside GREIG Christian Grndau - F 12 Aberdeenshire - Longside GREIG William Grnson - M 10 Scholar Aberdeenshire - Longside GREIG John Grnson - M 6 Scholar Aberdeenshire - Rathen GREIG James Grnson - M 5 Aberdeenshire - Longside Page: 0/18 PARK Mary A Grndau - F 4 Aberdeenshire - Longside
=======================================================
However, the situatiion you describe is much more like seeing Christian, d/o John and Margaret, and this 1851 census taken 2 miles N of Mintlaw:
1851 Census Piece: SCT1851/228 Place: Old Deer -Aberdeenshire Enumeration District: 2B Civil Parish: Old Deer Ban Ecclesiastical Parish, Village or Island: - Folio: 0 Page: 17 Schedule: 72 Address: West Street, Fetterangus Surname First name(s) Rel Status Sex Age Occupation Where Born Remarks GREIG William Head M M 49 Carpenter Banffshire - Old Deer GREIG Jean Wife M F 33 Aberdeenshire - Tarves GREIG Christian Dau - F 3 Banffshire - Old Deer GREIG William Son - M 2 Banffshire - Old Deer
Here, the most obvious explanation is they're two difft kids with the same name. Unlike my Christian, I've never researched this Christian, so I can't substantiate this
Just out of interest, I looked on FreeBMD with no dates, and there's 10 births for me (but no others match my mid-initial). In the past, I've googled me, and there were a dozen plus of me, including a NZ fisheries researcher, a soc prof from Edinburgh, and a garage owning mechanic from the midlands.
