In that case better put it on the Back boiler for now……
I understand work has started to transcribe all Gilroes events ( 119 Yrs ) And transfer the details on to a C D………. But it usually takes the best part of two years work. ……
So save your pennies till then……….

Thanks, Mike. A bit out of this pensioners league at the moment. BUT worth considering for the future as Louisa needs some of the recognition she obviously didn't get back in '44. Thank you again for your help, it is very gratefully received. :)

Sorry to say Louisa was not buried in Welford Road Cemetery.
Remember that the year was during WWII………
Therefore the burial records might not have been recorded. …….
The Funeral would well have been at the expense of the Council
Due to her family status
I would think the Burial / Cremation could be at Gilroes Cemetery / Crematorium
But there again the Council has the SOLE rights on Gilroes events details And are very expensive to obtain……We are talking £50 plus here ……. If you wish to continue then I can post the contact details for the Council.

Just one more thing, Mike (sorry to be so cheeky) but whilst on the subject of Welford road cemetery. I am trying to locate also my grandmother Louisa Toach who died in 1944 (December) just before I was born. She died in The Leicester Mental Hospital, later to become the Towers. As 'patients' of mental institutes were not talked about I have no idea where she is buried. I think she may also be in Welford Road, but I do not how to get this information. Her death cert from the hospital doesn't really say anything at all. Apparently her only son, my father was at sea at the time of her death.

Mike This is so nice of you (information), I shall certainly use it. You are right, what great staff. I had no idea we had this facility in Leicester, how ignorant am I? But since joining the GR community I have found everyone so helpful and friendly, with such obliging information to impart. Everyone deserves a good round of applause. There is a world of knowledge out there with the right direction.
Thanks again.

If you do make a visit to Welford Road Then call in at the Visitors Centre ( just inside main gate on RIGHT hand side)
Where you can get a map of the section and the directions to that plot And if they are not busy then they will accompany you to the plot. Or if you give then plenty of notice then they can mark the plot with a coloured marker on the day of your visit …..
I have nothing but prise for the excellent service from the staff there……

Glad to help. ……..
Seeing that the plot was classed as a “ Freehold Plot “ Indicated by the capital. …. “ F “ after the plot No’. C. O. 2543.
Which meant that the Family had taken out a lease on the plot To insure only Family members of the Ball family could use the plot.
Therefore the chances of there being a headstone is strong. …..
When you ring the Visitors Centre and state the plot No’. Plus the Surname of those interned within the plot Then they will be able to say whether or not there is a headstone. From their records of that plot. …..
In otherwords ......
If there is NO name on that Plot No’. on their Plans on that section. ....... then there is No Headstone.

Hi Mike So glad this is still going. Are you able to locate a buriel in Welford Road Cemetery? Circa 1922-William Ball. Relatives do not believe there was a headstone as money was very scarce. Also Annie Ball, thought to be around 1953. If not are you able to point me in the right direction to records of buriels in Wleford Road Cemetery?
Thanks

Holds out right hand and points in this direction.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
We usually count back 20 years and then start trawling files…. .
So…….We get the following possibilities. …….
St Michael & All Angels Parish Church. COSBY.
1777. Ann. Daughter of William & Ann Norton. Bapt. …6th. May.
1785. Ann. Daughter of William & Elizabeth Norton. ..Bapt. 6th. May.
All Saints NARBOROUGH.
1765.
Matthew. Son of Matthew & Jane Stevenson.. Bapt. …3rd. November.
I hear you say that Matthew was a lot older than Ann But I did also see that there were records of a Family group of Matthew & Elizabeth Stevenson. Also in Narborough ….
So the marriage to Ann could well be his second marriage But did not see a burial for an Elizabeth between the dates of the two Stevenson families……

Hello Mike - it's me again! Now you have given me the marriage of Matthew Stevenson and Ann Norton in Narborough- my 4x Great Grandparents - Is there any way of finding out their births with only that information? I am only assuming that they were born in Leicestershire! Could you point me in the right direction! Best wishes Glenys
