Just popped in. Thanks Tracey.
Judging from the timing of her postings I think Linda is from overseas so should reply later.
Useful archives address Ann. Will make a note of that myself. Is that in Hailton library or somewhere else? I spent a weekend in there a few years ago.

I just wanted to suggest it might be interesting, Linda, to trace the Foden family who were living with Robt Jr in 1881 -- mother Margaret was his housekeeper for a long time, and they could have family stories.
In 1871 they were (1881 has only initials for the whole lot of them):
Margt Foden 38 - innkeeper Wm Foden 13 Margt I Foden 11 Joseph Foden 9 Ann Eliz Foden 7 Jane Davies 30 - niece - born Lancashire - married, domestic
If Robt Sr was from Liverpool originally, it's possible that this Jane Davies was in fact related. In fact, I wonder whether Margaret Foden Sr was an aunt of Robt Jr ... like maybe:
Marriages Jun 1852 ? Davies Margaret West Derby 8b 553 ? Foden Joseph West Derby 8b 553 Rimmer John West Derby 8b 553 Worthington Grace West Derby 8b 553
1861
Name: Margaret Foden Age: 29 Estimated birth year: abt 1832 Relation: Wife Spouse's name: Joseph Where born: Bromborough, Cheshire, England Civil parish: Lower Bebington County/Island: Cheshire
Joseph Foden 30 - publican Margaret Foden 29 William Foden 3 Margaret J Foden 1 Elizabeth Foden 22 Sarah Hughes 17 servant
1841 in Bromborrow
William Davies 50 - farmer, born Cheshire Jane Davies 50 Jane Davies 20 Thomas Davies 15 Ann Davies 12 Margaret Davies 10
Possibly William was a brother of Robt Sr ... possibly they weren't related. ;) It does seem that Robt Jr took on responsibility for the family when mother Margaret was widowed, though.
On a quick tree search, a GR member has William 1858 and Margaret 1860 born Cheshire in her tree. edit to clarify - yes, they are Fodens. ;)

From Genuki
Merchant Marine Flintshire Record Office holds Shipping Records from 1863 to 1913, which include lists of the crews of ships trading from Flintshire ports on the River Dee. Two bound volumes of indexes to these records (about 30,000 names) are available.

Ah never quite made it there but have made note.

Just to remind,
I need an email address to send these newspaper clips to.

Hello Ladykira, Jane, Ann & Tracey
I usually sit down at work in my lunchtime to check on these vital bits of information all of you are finding out for me, and I assumed that you were all from the UK, sorry.
Hi Jane Thanks for the links and info about how to tease the secrets out, I'll have to have a look later.
I will keep the idea in mind about the Foden's Sometime you wish they would just name their kids different to themselves don't you. Captain Robert married a Margaret possibly 1829 then they had a Margaret b 1835 who married an Evan Richards around 1855 I would guess. Then my Grandrother was a Margaret and my auntie Peggy was born a Margaret!!!
My aunt thought the Captain and his wife had moved to Mostyn from Machynlleth in 1835, so she thought Margaret might have been from there but I havn't gone along that avenue yet. The quick tree search you did, was that for the Foden'?
Hi LadyKira
The 3 addresses for the family is confusing as my aunty remembers they only ever lived in the one house from around 1835 to 1952, known as Mostyn House, Mostyn Quay. This house is still there by the looks of it on Google Maps.
Sounds like a contact to the Flintshire Records Office would be good, I bet their not online!!
I don't know of any John Davies's in the line and as far as I know, Captain Robert was the only seaman, where as Robert Davies Jnr seemed to be in shipping.
Hi Tracey
Captain Robert Davies married a Margaret Owen as far as I can accertain as there was a marriage on 25/12/1829 in Amlwch, Anglesey. If I get the death certificates that would confirm/deny this info I guess. I am just looking forward at this stage from Captain Robert Davies and hopeing to find any other living relations!!
Thanks for all that newspaper info.
Hi Ann Thanks for the email and web site info you have sent as I have not contacted them yet.
Thanks all for your relplies

Just one note
English/Welsh death certificates do not give the maiden name of a woman, nor do they give any children, nor the names of the parents.
The most you would get might be "widow/wife of ...... "

Hello Sylvia
Yes I had just come to that conclusion after looking at the records site. Ah well it will be good to have them anyway.
Thanks Linda

Hello LadyKira
Ooops, done Thanks Linda
|
Nudged for my reference as Robert's sister Frances appears to have married into my tree
|
That is sooooo unfair. :(
:)
|
Again JC
Keep looking.
Maybe I could share some Smiths.

I still need to confirm this though.
I have not found a census with his wife on it although he has chidren.
If Frances Hargreaves 1871 census is his wife did they marry? Presumably 2nd marriage/
How did Frances Davies become Frances Hargreaves and what happened to her?
