I am trying to find information on my Gt Gt Grandfather Philip Baird,(coal/iron miner) born circa 1836, possibly in Ireland. He married Frances Nisbet, in Carluke, Lanark, Scotland 20th Dec 1857. As far as I know they only had two children Margaret (My Gt Grandmother) born circa 1858, and Jane born 1860. I have found a census index for 1861 living in Ayrshire . I would be most grateful if anyone has access to census records in Scotland that may throw any light on the above. |

The only place you can see the "original" of Scottish census is on the Scotland's People website. You might be lucky and get a place of birth rather than just Ireland if you're able to look at the original. |

Wow, thank you so much Greyghost, and Chris Ho, the newspaper article refering to Philip is superb. Overtown is listed as the marriage location for Phillips daughter Margaret, so that all seems to fit . She Married a George Young 2nd August 1878 in Overtown . He died at sea, listed as a ships cook. |

Well I found the death of Phillip Baird, he died 25th January 1907 at Hartwood Asylum, Shotts. North Lanarkshire. Aged 69 . which would make his date of birth c.1838. He was listed on the 1871 census as being a Miner, but also listed as a Lunatic, so that all seems to fit. |
