Thomas Staniforth b 1810 son of John & Mary Hurt (hackenthorpe) married Mary Linley in 1834 in Handsworth This Thomas is NOT to be confused with Thomas b 1810 (Hackenthorpe) son of Thomas and Ann Hibbard who married Mary Jane Hardy in 1835.
Thomas and Mary Linley had 3 children Thomas b 1839 Sheffield, Herbert b 1841 Ecclesall Bierlow Sheffield and Ann Eliza b 1843.
In 1841 they lived in Sheffield and Thomas was a joiner builder. between 1843 & 1846 Mary died and in 1846 Thomas remarried the much younger Isabella Pryor bc1827. 1851 the family are still Sheffield way with the addition of daughter Isabella Alice b 1848.
1881 there is just Thomas and Isabella at Sheffield. 1901 just Isabella and 2 grandchildren from her daughter Isabella Alice.
Isabella died 1902 (her daughter died 1884) .
So where was the family in 1861 - 71- 91 and when did Thomas die. (not 1873 which was his cousin the other Thomas :-) )
They all seem to have disappeared !

The death makes sense now he has appeared in 1891 .. You are right it´s the mysteries that make it addictive and this family sure have some. The daughter Isabella Alice has a few also with one of her sons missing and then appearing on a death index in 1958 in the Netherlands ....I think his wife and family might still have been camped outside Wakefield prison :-D
Thank you for the help.

Alviegal, yes that is the one, thank you. Although I had found them in 1841 & 1851 I didn´t know about the other daughter or the bankruptcy ..that could explain why they moved to London. Not why they changed names mind. Thank you for those :-D

In 1968, we moved to Hemel Hempstead. We had neighbours called Staniforth. Not sure if any connection, as people did move from london to HH in the 1950. s They had a grocery shop in the town. They retired to Bournemouth, in the early 70's
Maybe a connection with yours? Not that common a name

Aliviegal, I had found Edwards marriage and the fact that he was back as Staniforth after his wifes death in Eckington ..so they all moved back. Edward and Amelia´s children were registered as Staniforth-Thompson from what I can work out. Thomas & Isabellas daughter Isabella Alice married at Mile End under the Staniforth name. in 1875.
Somewhere between 1871 & 1881 Thomas moved back to Sheffield and once more became a Staniforth and Edward returned after 1881 bef 1887 and joined his parents in the Staniforth name after 1887 daughter Isabella and hubby also went back and moved to Eckington. where Isabella Alice died in 1884. She married in hackney 1875 and her 1st child was born in Sheffield in 1876 and the next 2 in Eckington. . Did her parents return at the same time ? It´s certainly got me curious as to why :-D
Pauline there are many Staniforths about now but most do seem to stem from the original Yorkshire/Derbyshire crew. Sometimes linking the family up though is not only a nightmare but impossible to know for sure :-0
