Mum has just told me that hair grips (Kirby grips) were scarce in the war and she told ber little brother that if he found any she would give him a penny for them. He did find some! and brought them home for mum.

Fed up, bored, it's raining and I should be up the tunnel but I am also cold so not going out up there.

Hi today had a lovely day just doing nothing.Got up late 12am and ho did me sausages and beans and then watched a film with Lawrence Harvey about four guys who try to rob a post office but it all went wrong. Jessica my daughter did what she called carrot coriander and orange soup but informed me she did not put any coriander or orange in so it was plain carrot. I was full of saugages.
Yes Ann I did have a uniform it made me laugh when you said your MIL was a usherette and she flashed her torch at the projectionist. My uniform was a dirty grey greeenish colour a shapeless skirt and a yellow blouse
and tunic jacket with gold braid on the sleeve and coller and four gold buttons I hated it. It was thin material very cold in winter I used to wear four vests under it and we could not take the jacket off in summer so I used to roll up the shirt sleeves and then put my jacket on. I remember opening the exit doors to let some air in once and when I came back into the cinema four chaps were sat eating chips in the front row. I had to beg to go by promising them
I would meet them after work and bring some girlfriends.
I shot out a different entrance and ran all the way home.

Sat matinee was awful all those screaming children and
used to be so glad when the Pathe News came on then it
was a Childrens Foundation film. It all went silent but I did the Ice cream sales we only had 24 vanilla flat cups and they were so frozen you could not get the tops off and the wooden spoons broke trying to dig into it. I had a tray with 12 ice creams each side and my money tray in the middle and it was heavy round your neck. I stood there scared to death when the lights went up and people came up for ice cream. I ran out and all the rest of the people got none.

Weather's driving me completely nuts!! it's SO cold here and, you've guessed it, raining!!! Have been really busy lately, Exford Show last Wednesday, ( a nice day!) A driving 'jolly' on Sunday, weather not too bad, pony behaved really well, poor Millie (dog) had a bit of a sore rear end, but she was very good too, and only howled once (or twice!) Tuesday, friends for the day, and today, Tesco's.(Ugh) tomorrow Dunster Show, taking a picnic!! and the forecast is AWFUL!! Hope the kitten progresses, it sounds a sweet little puss. We rescued one years ago, someone drew up outside our house on a motor bike, tipped this sack up, shook it and then drove off! when we went out to see what it was, there was this tiny wee kitty in the gutter, just shaken out and left to die!!! people are so dreadful! Anyhow we took it to the vet, who shook his head, said it was far to young and would grow up with problems IF she grew up at all. She too was walking oddly, like a crab, and had lost the sight in one eye and any problem you could think of that poor cat had. We called her kinky-winks nursed her day and night, and she lived to be 13 without any problems, other than her sight, and she always walked badly, as her leg had been broken, and was always a bit on the skew! So don't loose heart, TLC usually wins the day!

I'm going to peel some spuds, and have Lamb Chops,Smash, and Curly Kale for supper, and watch a repeat of the Onedin Line! takes you back eh?! I loved the Normans! What a cruel bunch they were, along with everyone else of that era, only got the weather to grumble about, suppose we're quite lucky really!!!!

Afternoon All.

Rainy here now and I wanted to paint the basket brackets outside tomorrow and the lantern hooks up the garden........maybe it'll blow dry tonight.

Just been drooling over Maureen's pretty kitty pics. Even OH was smitten!! Says Alfie looks just like the Sammy he had years ago. Let's hope he does well from now on.

We went to McArth*r Glen and I got a nice grey fleece with a fur lining for half price from M*S (£17.50) and a necklace and bra (not Sadie's I'm afraid. lol). My old fleece was past it and not as warm as this........I'm ready for the snow now aren't I. lol OH got 3 cheap books (football and rugby related) from the Work* and I bought a book as well. Then we called at Ike* on the way back and had dinner while we were there and then to Arg*s to trade in 2 old Wii games.......got an £8 giftcard for them. Called in Curry* nextdoor which has been done up since we last went..............we were watching the new 3d televisions through the special glasses.......fantastic!! Now I am pooped and having a cuppa.........OH is in the bath.

I hated those kerbigrips when I had plaits. I used to chew the gum bits off that covered the ends and then they would scratch my head putting them in........especially when mum put them in!!

Jane

Jane Report 19 Aug 2010 18:29

Gosh ,you have a hectic day Ann.I can't even think about fleeces right now lol
Oooh Little Alfie is so gorgeous and a bit of a minx by the looks of things lol
Mel your fairies and pots look lovely. Is that a sensor I can see on the tree?
Hi Sheila!

Sheila

Sheila Report 19 Aug 2010 18:49

Hi Ann I saw some nice fleeces in M&S with a fur linings they had some nice things in the store here. Wanted a long sleeve jumper because the tops of my arms are a bit chubby and covered in bites out of the garden.

With that lovely hair did you ever have a french plait .
Jane did you say you were going to the pitures.I came on to see if my brother had sent a e mail his wife was bit by a dog while on holiday in Germany asked how she was he
did not go. He said wait for my e mail that was two hours ago so flitting from genes to aol. Giving up soon .

Annx

Annx Report 19 Aug 2010 18:58

I always wanted a french plait, but mum would only do pigtails with ribbons in. lol. As soon as I went to grammar school she made me have it chopped short to look more 'grown up'. There were ructions when I wanted to grow it at age 16!!! Luckily and unusually dad said 'let her grow it' and mum sulked!!! I really grew it then....down my back and with a fringe......like the New Seekers girl. It stayed more or less like that until I was 40. Do you want to see a pic of how I had it cut then??? lol

Jane

Jane Report 19 Aug 2010 19:00

I went this morning Sheila and saw The Ghost ,with Ewan McGregor and Peirse (sp) Brosnan .It was really good.
Still light rain here ,but it is so dark.I watered my neighbours tomatoes earlier and have brought back a big bowl of them.I even took some down to Fitz and his wife as there are so many.

Mel mentioned Kirby Grips.Ouch! Mum would always do my parting ,press in a wave and then stick my scalp with one to hold back my hair. They were lethal if the soft end had gone lol.
