Good morning :-)

There are some wonderful traditional hymns and, I have to admit, that is one of my frustrations with many church schools........the children only seem to learn the modern ones and repeat them endlessly. When these children come to church for a service, they are totally lost with the music because they don't know the hymns. I could rant on for a bit on this topic ....... :-D

The Collect for today:

The Collect

Almighty Lord and everlasting God,
we beseech you to direct, sanctify and govern
both our hearts and bodies in the ways of your laws
and the works of your commandments;
that through your most mighty protection,
both here and ever, we may be preserved in body and soul;
through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.

Love to all Cx :-)

Hello all

Today it has rained for almost the whole day. Can't grumble really because it's the first rain we have had for a week. On the positive side is the fact I haven't had to water the gardens.

When it rains.......... look for rainbows
When it's dark look for stars.

Thinking of all who feel sad today for whatever reason today. xxx

Good morning :-)

I think I could be forgiven for thinking, when looking out of the back bedroom window, that it was 27th November, not 27th July! Damp, grey, misty and miserable. :-(

Never mind, we press on regardless and thank God for all the good things he has given to us.........rain an' all :-D

Delighted to say that my husband made it to church yesterday after not being able to go for 4 or 5 weeks. Everyone was delighted to see him and it's lovely being part of a church family... :-)

This is one of the hymns we sang yesterday - special to me because my mother chose it for her funeral.......and it's probably special to many folk...

How sweet the name of Jesus sounds
In a believer’s ear!
It soothes his sorrows, heals his wounds,
And drives away his fear.

It makes the wounded spirit whole,
And calms the troubled breast;
’Tis manna to the hungry soul,
And to the weary, rest.

Dear name, the rock on which I build,
My shield and hiding place,
My never failing treasury, filled
With boundless stores of grace!

Jesus! my shepherd, husband, friend,
O prophet, priest and king,
My Lord, my life, my way, my end,
Accept the praise I bring.

Weak is the effort of my heart,
And cold my warmest thought;
But when I see Thee as Thou art,
I’ll praise Thee as I ought.

Till then I would Thy love proclaim
With every fleeting breath,
And may the music of Thy name
Refresh my soul in death!

Hello All

That is good news Cynthia. Your husband will have enjoyed the fuss and deserved it for his effort to be in church after so many weeks.

Another lovely old hymn and how sad to hear that school children are taught only modern and not traditional hymns any more.

It has rained all night long and most of today so no need to water the garden today.

This is an Apache Blessing and worthy of sharing today.

May the sun bring you new energy by day
May the moon softly restore you by night
May the rain wash away your worries
May the breeze blow new strength
into your being.
May you walk gently through the world, and
know it's beauty all the days of your life.

Thinking now of all who work outside in this cold and rainy weather. xxx

Good morning :-)

Another grey day by the looks of things.......and I can see my plants all blowing about.

We managed to do some shopping yesterday and it was interesting that we bumped into some friends we haven't seen in a long while. Fortunately, there was a coffee shop at hand, so we were able to have a good long natter........ :-D

I spotted this yesterday :

Things God won't ask on THAT day
1. God won't ask what kind of car you drove.
He'll ask how many people you drove who didn't have transportation.

2. God won't ask the square footage of your house.
He'll ask how many people you welcomed into your home.

3. God won't ask about the clothes you had in your closet.
He'll ask how many you helped to clothe.

4. God won't ask what your highest salary was.
He'll ask if you compromised your character to obtain it.

5. God won't ask what your job title was.
He'll ask if you performed your job to the best of your ability.

6. God won't ask how many friends you had.
He'll ask how many people to whom you were a friend.

7. God won't ask in what neighbourhood you lived.
He'll ask how you treated your neighbours.

8. God won't ask about the colour of your skin.
He'll ask about the content of your character.

Hello All

Thanks for today's posting Cynthia. Good to know that your husband is improving and you are both able to get out and about together again. A real bonus to meet friends.

Friends are the people in life
that make you laugh a little louder.
Smile a little brighter.
Live a little better.

Good morning :-)

It is lovely to meet friends I agree kandj and, funnily enough, today is the date where we celebrate Mary, Martha and Lazarus - known as companions of Christ.

Mary and Martha are remembered for the hospitality of their home that they offered him. Their brother Lazarus was raised from the dead as a sign of the greater resurrection to come.

Prayer:

O God, heavenly Father,
whose Son Jesus Christ enjoyed rest and Refreshment
in the home of Mary and Martha of Bethany:
Give us the will to love you, open our hearts to hear you,
and strengthen our hands to serve you in others for his sake;
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
now and for ever.

Amen.

Remembering those who have lost dearly loved friends recently.

Remembering those who are in need of friendship x

When you are lonely, I wish you Love.
When you are down, I wish you Joy.
When you are troubled, I wish you Peace.
When things are complicated, I wish you
Simple Beauty.
When things are chaotic, I wish you Inner Silence.
When things look empty, I wish you Hope.

Hello all

Thank you for those lovely words Emma.

Cynthia, I seem to be like Martha (always a job to be done!) but do try to become more like Mary............... doesn't always work out as it should though.

Blessed is the person who is too busy to worry in the daytime, and
too sleepy to worry in the night time.

Continuing to remember all in need of prayer. xxx

Lovely words again - thank you <3

The sun is actually shining this morning..........wow! Trouble is, I always want to fill the washing machine so that I can hang clothes out to dry in the fresh air :-D

For today, a Celtic prayer.......

A Familiar Stranger
I saw a stranger today.
I put food for him
in the eating-place
And drink
in the drinking-place
And music
in the listening-place.
In the Holy name
of the Trinity
He blessed myself
and my family.
And the lark said in her warble
Often, often, often
Goes Christ
in the stranger's guise.
O, oft and oft and oft,
Goes Christ
in the stranger's guise.

A late night prayer for everyone.

Watch, dear Lord
with those who wake or weep tonight.
Watch over those who sleep.
Tend the sick ones
Give rest to the weary ones.
Bless the dying
Sooth the suffering.
Shield the joyous
For His names sake
Amen.

Father, Creator of all, thank You for summer!

Thank you for the warmth of the sun and the increased daylight.

Thank You for the beauty I see all around me and for the opportunity to be outside and enjoy Your creation.

Thank You for the increased time I have to be with my friends and family, and for the more casual pace of the summer season.

Draw me closer to You this summer. Teach me how I can pray no matter where I am or what I am doing.

As I enjoy Your creation, create in me a pure heart and a hunger and a thirst for You.

Amen.

Even if not going far, I hope most folk can make it outside to relax for a while and enjoy the sunshine. Love to all Cx :-)

Hello All

Summer has been here today. Sunshine with blue sky and white fluffy clouds.... a blessing for us all to enjoy as sunshine is a good tonic. So much better than any medication and it's FREE.

As day turns to night, keep your worries out of sight
No matter how tough the world might seem,
You all deserve the sweetest dream.

Wishing Good Night and Sweet Dreams to everyone tonight. xxx

The following made me smile ...... and think :

Jacob was a cheater,
Peter had a temper,
David had an affair,
Noah got drunk,
Jonah ran from God,
Paul was a murderer,
Gideon was insecure,
Miriam was a gossiper,
Martha was a worrier,
Thomas was a doubter,
Sara was impatient,
Elijah was moody,
Moses stuttered,
Zaccheus was short,
Abraham was old,
and Lazarus was dead..

Hello All

Thanks Cynthia, I also liked today's posting.

Today is Yorkshire Day, so join me in celebrating today for White Rose County.

In the main street of our village today there are many Yorkshire flags displayed.
A white rose in the centre of a plain blue background, all look very special today.
In the Community Centre there will be a Yorkshire Day celebration evening, with a brass band playing traditional Yorkshire songs for a good old sing song. after eating pie and mash or Yorkshire Pudding filled with vegetables and gravy.
Sadly we won't be there... next year perhaps?? We forever live in hope.

A White Rose Quote to share with everyone on this special day.

A flower that shows us that the world is full of.....
Love, Friendship, Happiness, Affection, Peace.
Here I present it to you to say
I Like You.
Happy White Rose Day

Hello All

Yorkshire Day flags will be kept flying in the village main street for rest of this week.
It rained just before the fireworks display...... typical British Summer weather!

The collect for today brought the fruits of the Holy Spirit to my mind.

Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity
gentleness, faithfulness, modesty, self-control, chastity.

Cynthia, I hope that your husband felt well enough to be with you in church today.

Thinking of all who are out and about on our busy roads right now. xx

Yes, my husband made it to church thank goodness. Let's hope we are on another good spell for a while. :-)

For today:

Be thou my vision, Lord
this day and every day,
the centre of my life,
the focus of my thoughts.
Be thou my wisdom, Lord
the inspiration of my words,
in every situation,
Your Spirit my support

Hello all

The Yorkshire flags are still flying high in the village main street. A good sight to see.

Cynthia, it was good for you both to make it to church yesterday. I hope your husband continues to keep stable so you can go out and about more together.

Sad news of the sudden death of Cilla Black. Thoughts and prayers are with her family and close friends now. Remembering other families who are grieving too.

Matthew 5:4. Blessed are those who mourn, they shall be comforted.
