Herbert John wells born 1898 in Ealing middesex it’s two years before he got married to my granny and they lived in the same town

EDIT - an Ancestry tree shows his marriage certificate to Gladys Nellie Langston at St John, Ealing Dean, when his occupation is said to be a Carpenter, so a change of job from 1921 ! His Father in law is a Carpenter so a possible change in 2 years ?

The 1939 register shows him as a House painter with a knowledge of carpentry. Said to be married but Nellie not there. Son Kenneth listed with him.

Linda, your post made me smile because my Mum used to refer to her period as Granny, she grew up in an orphanage so it was probably the way of the world back then. :-)

Actually we always called them nanny but I thought it might sound a bit babish I didn’t know my Irish nan very well only remember seeing her once but know I was taken over when I was a baby I know the Irish side did not want the marriage because my dad was English going back to my English grandad the job he had in the 1921 cencus was one of many on al the birth certificates of his children he had different ones and when I was a child I remember them both working in Hoovers
