Maureen Report 28 Aug 2010 22:19

Good to see you back David, hope Ralph will improve, these things take time.

Just popped in to say night night, am absolutely kn..ckered, still digging up son's garden, the man who had the house before put in loads of shrubs and son wants the whole lot cleared and just have grass down, neither of them are gardeners. So I'm against the clock as grass seed will need to go down by October.

Have a full day over there again tomorrow. His partners mum is a painter and decorator so she will have a major job on filling all the walls before it gets painted, all hands on deck.

Poor Coco, Alfie is still being a naughty liitle boy. I can just see my curtains getting shredded. He clawed his way up my leg past my knee today, ouch !!!

Jane Report 29 Aug 2010 10:12

Morning Everyone
Maureen I once had a kitten that would climb up the curtains, and it would sit on the rail looking down lol
Well it started off blue sky and now it is all cloud.I am off for a shower and hair wash, then quick trip to Tes** and then I will start typing out this letter of Fitz for you to read.
He thinks this man who is the guardian of Edith is actually her real Father and"Auntie' mentioned in the letter is his wife but not Ediths Mother.

Morning All,

Sorry to hear Ralph has had a setback. Let's hope he will soon be feeling a lot better. A worrying time for you David and now you have to have a biopsy.....hope it all goes well for you.

A kitten we had when I was with first OH would climb up his jeans and onto his shoulder while he filled the kettle in the morning.......and first OH was just under 6ft tall!! Determined little mite. He would also curl up on your slipper when you had something on your lap and he couldn't get there. The same kitten would also head for the curtains, including nets as soon as he heard the hoover. I remember he also loved cucumber and also had a ball with of one of those plastic knitted mesh pan scourers while I was at work one day. lol

Off out for lunch soon and am taking a basin to pick a few more blackberries on the way back.......more scratched arms and red fingers!!

OK here goes
My Dearest Child,
I am leaving this letter to be given to you after my death,so that you may know my wishes as regarding your future.
First an foremost I do not wish you to have anything to do at all with your own people.I beg of you ON NO ACCOUNT EVER TO SEE ANYONE OF THEM.
I have left your Father and Mother an annuity under my will of about the same amount as the allowance I have for many years made them, but I have made a condition that if they or any of your rothers or Sisters were to interfere with you at any time, this annuity ceases at once.Perhaps I should be asking too much of you,if I were to askyou never to give anyone of youe people a single penny so I will not do so,but I do most earnestly hope that if you do ever give any one of them anything it will only be a very small sum and that on no account will you SEE ANY ONE OF THEM PERSONALLY.
It can easily be arranged through Mr Pearce Jones who knows all about your family.
I need not give you my reasons for this strong expression of my wishes.you can only rely on it that in expressing myself so strongly I am acting entirely,as I firmly believe,in your own interest and for your future happiness.
I have not attempted to force these my wishes on you by making any stipulations in my will about the money I have left you.I feel sure you reciprocate to a great extent my great love for you and i feel confident I CAN TRUST YOU FOLLOW OUT MY WISHES.
I am deeply anxious and concerned about your future.
In a previous letter I had written to you to be handed to you on my death,I had expressed a very strong wish that you should not on any account live with 'Auntie'.This was on account of her having suffered with Dipsomania.Since last August Auntie has bee a teatotaler and has in consequence improved in every aspect. As long as this state of affairs continues there is no reason why you should not IF YOU ARE HAPPY WITH AUNTIE AND WISH IT live with her,but I fear that when I am no longer here to influence Auntie she may again fall victim to the fatal habit. In that case I sincerely hope that you will on no account live with her.Let no feeling of what you may consider your duty to her in this respect influence you! Your first duty will be to yourself ! and I can only beg you to take Mr Pearce-Jones and your other Guardians into your confidence and to leave Auntie.
I trust I shall be able to leave you sufficiently well off to live anywhere you wish and arrangements can easily be made for a companion or chaperon to live with you until please god you are happily married.
I love you dearest child as if you were my own flesh and blood. It has been given me to do much for you ,and more perhaps than you will perhaps even begin to realise.I now give you the opportunity of proving your gratitude by carrying out these my wishes.
Your Loving"Uncle"

I hope I haven't bored the pants off you all by putting this on here ,but I thought if is a fascinating letter!!.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 29 Aug 2010 12:46

Morning All,

A bit dull and windy here today.

Nice to hear from you David as we were getting a bit worried about you and Ralph! What a nuisance about his arm getting infected. Just another problem for the poor chap on top of everything else his body has to cope with at present. Please give him our love and tell him we are thinking of him and wishing him better soon.

Our annual dog show is being held tomorrow on our top field out the front. It is just a fun show but is attended by crowds of people. They are putting up a big white gazebo thing today which they use for people to sit at tables with their teas etc. I hope it dos'nt rain for them. They always have a good raffle but it is mostly doggy things.

I picked all the plums off the tree up there yesterday and came back home with a whole trug full of really big ones and one of those squashy buckets three quarters full of smaller ones. Now what do I do with all these plums??????????????? Some to et and some to sell and some for the shop up the road. I may even give a basket full for a raffle prize.

Gerrybear so nice to have some more memories from a fresh name, please can we have some more?

Perhaps you would like to join our thread on a regular basis like others have done?

I am going to admit now that I did'nt wake up very early this morning!!! 5 to 11!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gosh what happened, I must have needed that sleep.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 29 Aug 2010 12:52

Gosh Jane it sure is! I wonder what the true story is behind it?

Jane

Jane Report 29 Aug 2010 13:21

The thought is Mel that this man probably got a servant pregnant, and then married her off.By paying. He then claimed or took the girl from that family when she was 6 years old.How traumatic that must have been for her,and to never see them again.I don't think he had any children from his marriage to the dipsomaniac lol.He sounds like he was a very controlling man.But obviously loved the girl.Fitz told me she had lots of problems later in life .She was probably totally screwed up bless her.
Mel there are plums everywhere around here.Is it time to pick Damsons yet?Chris fancies making a Damson gin ,like he will do with the Sloe berries he picked yesterday.
That lie in must done you good Mel
I am now the proud owner of a new pair of slippers!!!!!!.With anti slip bottoms lol.I found some more bruises this morning on the back of my shoulder.I think I look a bit like a damson in places lol

Sunny here but a freezing cold wind, got OH to get the fire Guard down from the loft this afternoon as we have had the fire on for a short time don't want Sofia anyway near the fire . it's strange to see the guard there it was last used it in 1989 when daughter no2 was 2 1/2.

Jane that letter was fantastic to read and what a story for Fritz to have as a family airloom.
of to make a crumble for dinner to night.

Hi All----That's some letter--I think it may have been the child of his Brother or sister---the way he said---IT' HAS BEEN GIVEN ME ''' If it was his own
he would just have done it --not been given to do???? that why he didn't want her to get in touch with her family ---they may have told her

LilyL

LilyL Report 29 Aug 2010 16:15

Wow.interesting or what!!!! It's quite incredible and NOT boring at all! I wonder what the family had done to warrant this cry from the heart, more research needed here methinks! The Aunt who was a dipsomaniac!! what was the story with her I wonder? I'm truly fascinated, do let us know if you manage to find out more about these apparently dreadful people who would clearly wreck this lady's life!!!!!

Jane

Jane Report 29 Aug 2010 16:44

I will take all comments on the letter back to Fitz, and see if he can come up with any more ideas. He doesn't seem to think he will ever get to the roots of it all.Strange business though wasn't it.
I don't know if I said ,but she apparently carried out his wishes.

LilyL

LilyL Report 29 Aug 2010 17:03

Gosh that was qjuite something particularly as it concerned her own parents, brothers and sisters!! Whatever can they have done?!!! As you say, you probably will never get to the bottom of it, be nice if you could though! have discovered in amongst family pocessions an envelope (empty, sadly) but on the front it is addressed to my G.Grandfather, at his place of work, and on the back it says in GGF's writing,'Sent Joe £10! Jan 1904'! also on the back it has J .Lane Florist, The Broadway, Leyton. I thought Joe was GGF's brother, which he is, BUT after further scrutiny this would appear to refer to 'young Joe' GGF's nephew, whom I am having great difficulty running it all to earth. Again though, fascinating, as to what that was all about? had Joe got into debt, or was it a wedding present or something else either good or bad!!!! Am working on it!!

LilyL Report 29 Aug 2010 17:49

Apparently the 1921 census isn't being released until 2022!! I should think a proportion of us will be a bit past it by then!! I know I will!!! Also the one for 1931 (Enngland and Wales) has been lost in a fire and of course there wasn't one for 1941 because of the war! presumably the next one will be 1951 released in 2052! I shall be 109 by then so a bit past it in more ways than one I would say!

Jane

Just a quick hello. I'm so tired, might go to bed soon. was up really, really early, 7.30 ....that's really really early for me ...and spent nearly 10 hours with son at his house, couldn't be bothered to cook when I got in so had beans on toast.

I must have missed the history to this letter Jane, what relation is this to Fitz, when was it written, the writer sounds very Victorian, but a very interesting letter, it if was my family I would want to delve a lot deeper, try and get to the bottom of it.

You're right Frank, Mel is really good at tracing our rellies, she got me a lot further back when I was really stuck. Thanks Mel.

Jane

Jane Report 29 Aug 2010 21:24

Maureen the letter was written in 1906 and the girl was Fitz's Grandmother, his Fathers Mum.
I'm not surprised you are worn out.I bet you will sleep like a log.
Good Mel for helping you sort your tree Frank,She is a good old bean isn't she.
Talking of beans I better put mine in the fridge before they go floppy.I don't like freezing them as they are never the same.
I don't think I will be late to bed ,I am just watching Secret Britain and then I will go.
So will say Night Night now.xx
